Question:
I need help getting approved for a TT through Medical Mutual insurane.

I went to aplastic surgeon and he sent a letter of necc. and sent pictures twice but both times they said to would be considered cosmetic. I am 15 months out and have lost 121 pounds, I have not lost anything for 5 1/2 months now I haven't gained but I haven't lost.    — MMClosing (posted on November 13, 2003)

My sister had a TT last year and she had struggles with her insurance company. She doesn't have the same company as you but she has gone through the appeal process. She is always ready to share her info. Her e-mail is [email protected]

I'm unsure if this will help, but thought I would share this information. An employee that works with me stated he was denied approval through BCBS - AL, however, he had a consult with the Burn Center in Birmingham and they are willing to do the surgery for little to no cost as they will utilize the skin for skin drafts on burn patients. This may or may not be an avenue you can consider. Be encourage!

Hi, Just some suggestions. I went to a presentation by a local plastic surgeon who specializes in working with WLS patients this past week. He suggested that patients get as much documentation from as many sources as possible. For example, if the excess skin is leading to skin infections under the overlap, get documentation that you have seen a doctor or other health care practioner regarding this. Keep reciepts from any creams, ointments or other medications used. If you see a chiropracter or anyone else regarding back pain or related issues, see if they will write down that the excess skin weight impairs your back from healing properly. If you have difficulty with hygiene issues, get some documentation on that, possibly from your OB/GYN. If you are having trouble with foot care, have a podiatrist document this. Everything counts! Keep copies of everything, and be persistent in continuing to ask for re-evaluations, appeals, etc. Good Luck!! Jean from NH
