Question:
Has anyone been diagnosed with hypothyroidism post-op?
Has anyone been diagnosed with hypothyroidism post-op? I am 8 months post-op and in the past couple of weeks I have dropped 20 pounds. I have had a steady drop in weight since my surgery, but not this much in such a short period of time. Should I be concerned about hypothyroidism? Is there any other logic behind this? My food intake and activities have remained the same. The only thing that has been different lately is that I had my gallbladder removed about a month ago. I have heard that it is harder to lose weight after that though. I am just a little concerned and would appreciate any comments. By the way, I am 8 months post- op and down 155 pounds. If anything, you would be hypERthyroid, not hypOthyroid. However, I doubt
that either has anything to do with the weight loss. I am hypothyroid and
have been on synthroid for 12 years and have been told that is part of the
reason that I have difficulty losing weight. However, I know a person that
is hyperthyroid (been hospitalized for it) and is also overweight - not
obese - just overweight. If you were already diagnosed hypothyroid, I
would have encouraged you to get it checked since I have recently learned
that as we lose weight, we require less medication (synthroid) and that too
much synthroid can actually slow weight loss which is the total opposite of
what I would have thought.

I was diagnosed Hypothyroid in 1997. Before surgery I was taking .250
dosage. Since, my dosage keeps dropping. I am now taking .112. Being
Hypothyroid has not effected my weight loss. -232 at 22 months
