Question:
How long does it take Aetna to approve after 1st denial?
I have Aetna HMO, my PCP is a great help she is backing me all the way Dr. Bartolome, anyways the first referral denied, we resent proof that I had 6 months medically supervised program back to Aetna, with a letter from me as well as my Doctor. Has anyone gone through this? If so did you get approved and how long did the process take? Thanks Jeanne Oceanside, California — jeanne S. (posted on September 19, 2003)

After they turn down your request you have up to 2 yrs to appeal, but once
they get your appeal letter they only have 30 days to respond. I was denied
twice & each time they got back to me with-in 30 days. The last time
was with an approval & they called on like day 28, & then it took
almost a month to get the approval in writing.

I have Aetna and was denied on the first request but they overturned their
denial after I sent an appeal. I got my approval letter about 2 weeks after
they got my letter. So far they have been fantastic. I was told by a Dr.
that most insurance co.'s turn down the first request.
