Question:
Is this harmful to my pouch and is it hindering my weightloss?
I keep water bottles in my fridge at home. It is useful in helping me get my water in. But the one thing I am really worried about is that I can drink it fast. I mean, not sips, but one long drink. Is this stretching my pouch and will it slow my weight loss down? I am stuck on a plateau for the last 3 weeks and I am really scared. What do ya'll think? — dixieb (posted on September 1, 2003)

I do the very same thing. Maybe not actually gulping but regular size
swigs. Water goes straight thru your pouch.

No - it is not stretching your pouch - it flows right through like water
through a funnel. It's normal to be able to drink more at a swallow the
further you get out...JR

Since water runs right through us, you should be fine. I tend to be a
"gulper" but it made me so uncomfortable after RNY that I had to
learn to slow down because I was swallowing too much air. The more water
you drink, the better off you will be - it shouldn't slow your weight loss.
The question is - what are you eating and how much? Are you exercising,
and how much? Every time I've hit a plateau, I've had to adjust something
I was doing (or not doing) to get the scale moving again. It's always the
same thing - am I getting enough protein, am I eating too many carbs, am I
getting enough fluids and exercise. And sometimes it's nothing that you're
doing at all - it's just your body's way of saying, "Hey, I need to
hang out here for awhile and readjust." If you're still doing all the
things you know you're supposed to do to keep your weight loss going, then
your plateau should only be temporary. Hang in there ... it does pass!
