Question:
Has anyone else show the weight loss one week out of a month?
I have also shown weight gain and loss within a month with what I think is water gain. My weight loss seems to occur only one week a month since the second week. I am currently 10 weeks and only down 35 pounds since 6-9-03 288/272/260/253. I am following the diet, water, protein, and exercise--any advice? I guess I'm looking for others who have had this experience so I know I'm not alone. — who A. (posted on August 22, 2003)

Jill, read my profile and you will see that we are exactly in the same
situation. I am 4.5 mos out and I chart my weight loss/gain daily under
Dr's orders due to a medical issue. I plateau for 3 weeks out of every 4. I
had a big loss this month, in 3 days I lost 12lbs. Now, like clockwork, I
know I will plateau for 3 weeks. Best wishes, stick with it, it may get
frustrating, but the weight will come off :-)

this is my exact pattern, have been doing this since 6 months out and am
now 11 months -113# . since it is my "normal pattern" I have
accepted that this is how it is going to be and I don't stress about it.

Hiya Jill...I am not posting with an actual answer...I just wanted to let
you know that you are not alone. I am 8 weeks out and have also only lost
35lbs. My weight loss seems to be only trigured by a waterpill...I think I
have a problem with water retention and imporper bowel movents..sorry I
know that's gross. I walk 2.5 miles aday stick to my protein acarb here and
there...can't lie...and water allllll day long...but I have been on this
32-35lb weight loss for 2 1/2 weeks now. Maybe we can buddy up and check on
each other and incourage each other let me know my e-mail is

I've heard others mention this pattern. I'm scale obsessed, and know that
my weight will vary day to day--some days up, but genreally trending down.
I've also noticed that I lose about 2 pounds two weeks in a row, then lose
1/2 pound or nothing at all in the next week, and then lose 3 1/2 or four
pounds in the next week. That's my pattern (built around my period, so I'm
sure it's water retention/loss). I think there are several patterns out
there. Again, as long as you're trending down, getting enough protein,
water and your vitamins, try not to worry about it.

That was my pattern since week 3 and I still lost 130lbs in a year. I
plateaued for 3 weeks and then dropped anywhere from 4-7lbs, then right
back on the plateau. Frustrating, I know. But my advice is to STAY OFF THE
SCALE!! I was scale obsessed and it drove me nuts. Weigh once a week.

The solution to this problem is not to weigh in constantly, but perhaps to
do it once a month. It's easier said that done, but lots of people have a
weight loss pattern like yours. Mine might've been like that, but I got
off the scale at the first sign of frustration (when I hit a plateau at
three weeks out), and didn't weigh in but once a month (or once every
several weeks) after that, for months. Only when I got close to goal did I
weigh in more often, and then I noticed I lost weight in the pattern you've
noticed -- it was knowledge I didn't need while I still had a lot to lose,
though. Your body is going to lose it in its own way, and focusing on
making the permanent lifestyle changes that keep it off is so much more
important than whether it comes off in nice smooth straight line. Try
using a measuring tape to measure your progress weekly, and get on the
scale far less often. Hang in there!

Yup - here (waving hand). One week of each month since about 9 months out
I've noticed I lose 5 to 10 pounds and that's it for the month. I would
put the scale away but at 13 months out I like to make sure I'm not gaining
in between the losing weeks lol.
