Question:
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON FRUIT SMOOTHIES?
I just bought one and I love it. I used strawberries, ice and Splenda. It was delicious and very nutritious. My kids like them with yogurt, fruit and ice. I was eating mostly protein but decided to allow myself fruit, I mean whoever got fat eating fruit anyway? I still stay away from regular carbs though, bread, potatoes, etc. Is fruit a bad thing? — Kelly* P. (posted on July 9, 2003)

I make fruit smoothies too but I add to it my Real Meals vanilla shake and
get a smoothie with 30 grams of protein. I really try to make everything I
eat something that will help me lose. I have never been on a plateau and I
think it is because that everything I eat incorporates protein. I went to
the smoothie king sight and some of those have 100 carbs per serving.
YIKES! I think that you should eat what YOU are comfortable eating and as
long as you know what changes you are making then you know what might be
interfering if your weight loss slows down. I love my smoothies and
strawberries are a fruit that even Atkins allows!

I like fruit smoothies, but I use them as a treat that happens to have
protein in it (if it does), rather than as a protein shake. Once you add
fruit juice, yogurt, and fruit, the carb count climbs well past the protein
count. I'll do that anyway, if I want a treat, but I try to stay aware
that it's really gone beyond a "protein shake," for me, at that
point. As long as you truly "count" all the ingredients in a
fruit smoothie into your daily totals, and as long as it doesn't hamper
weight loss or maintenance (as the case may be) ... enjoy!

I never thought about putting my protien powder in them. I use
strawberries, bannanas, kiwi, watermelon, grapes and ice, my kids and I
love them with our breakfast! I drink them on and off, alot of work:o)
