Question:
Has anyone gone to Disney and had them honor your medical card for children/senior pr

How do you eat and what did you eat at Disney? I am about 3 months post-op and still finding out what works and what doesn't. Has anyone tried their cards for a cheeper rate at the "buffet" style eating. I to pay full price when I eat like a 2 year old! Otherwise I plan to share with my husband. Thanks.    — MegK (posted on June 8, 2003)

I went down at 5 months post-op and the family and I ate at the Garden Grove (Epcot) for the character meal that was part of the package we had. You're overpaying for the meal regardless, so just enjoy it for the entertainment experience. I had a little bit of the stuff I could eat - didn't eat any of the stuff I shouldn't and just acted like a normal person...didn't make any fuss over what I could or could not eat. If you go to a character meal, expect to pay full price if you attend. WDW is not going to honor any medical card...JR

when i could eat 3 times the normal person, no restruant charged me more then the regular price, now that i eat much less i would not expect to pay less. if i was a resturant owner i would be leary of anyone saying they had surgery because maybe they are just trying to get something cheap? some people do things like that and they can not afford to pay someone to stand around and watch them to see that they really do eat less?) most childrens meals are not something i want to eat anyhow, besides most resturants only give the kiddie meals to have the parents bring them in, i doubt they make a big profit on them. i recently went to an all you can eat chinese buffet, got a to go box, loaded it with all the things i thought i could eat, paid my 6.00 and ate 5 meals from it at home. to go in and sit down there would be a waste of money for me. i simply wouldn't go. most places (other then all you can eta places) will give oyu a box to take home, simply place 2/3 of your meal in it and take it home, if you do not want to do this, then let them clear it away! just my own ramblings on the subject. some people think the cards are a great idea, i don't. i just want to be normal, by drawing attention to myself and wls by having a spaz because a place does not accept a discount card thing is bad PR for everyone. IMHO

The Disney buffets are the only time that I have used the restaurant card. The prices for the buffets are anywhere from $15.95 to $21.95 and I still have a very small appetite so it pains me to spend that kind of money for me to eat. When I set up my priority seating for the buffets I just let the rep know that I had stomach reduction surgery and that I would like to know if I could be charged as a child. I told them that I had a card from my Dr. if it was needed and never once did I get any push back. Once I was at the restaurant, I mentioned that I made these arrangements when I did my PS and that I have a card if they needed to see it...and not one restaurant asked for it. It was a very positive experience. If you are paying for your meals on your own and they are not included in a package, this is a great help. I have a 4 year old so our last trip to Disney, we did 4 character buffets. I figue that the money I saved by paying for a child's buffet as oppose to an adult buffet paid for one day at the park. At sit down restaurants I just shared a meal with DH or my mom. As a matter of fact...each restaurant that I shared a meal at brought the food out on 2 plates. Also, another great tip...if you are going to a nice sitdown restaurant (and have prority seating) give them a call a couple of days before and let them know that you have a sugar and sugar alcohol sensitivity and ask if they would whip you up a sugar free dessert. Mention it again when you are seated and more often than not, you will have a great sugar-free dessert waiting for you! Disney really goes out of their way to accomodate!

Thanks all for the info...even though I didn't post the question. Am going to Disney at the end of this month. This is a once in a lifetime trip. I was going to have fun....I wasn't worried about the eating and cost thing. I was just going to enjoy it, but now I feel a little more comfortable about going to the buffets...now about those plane seats..LOL! Thanks! Tiffany =)
