Question:
I have my surgery on next Friday May 30th
My doc doesn't usually transect the stomach. Are there any long term post ops that were not transected and having problems. My doctor says that there really isn't a problem here. The problem is the area where the intestine is connected to the new pouch. The problem is whether it closes or not.My doc left the choice up to me. What should i do? — Deborah B. You can look up staple line disruption of the archives of this site and see
how prevelant it is. That is the most common problem with not transecting
the stomach. There are many people who have their pouches stapled only and
have not had problems, but there are also many who have and eventually had
revisions. I'm sure you will get alot of posts on this, but general
consensus usually is to transect the stomach. Goodluck to you :-)

I am not transected...that being said, if I had it to do over-again I'd
likely choose to be. simply to avoid the worry I have now. No problems
what-so-ever other than a mental fear of the future...but I'll deal with
that when or if it happens.
