Question:
I have recently had a DEXA scan which show I have OSTEOPENIA

is there something I can do to help keep it there so it doesn't progress into osteoporosis??? I take 960MG of Citrical +D and 600MG of liquid citrate w/D + Mag (= 1560mg of calcium citrate daily), plus another 500mg of Magnesium each day now.... I am 20 months out from RNY surgery, any suggestions on what to do to help control this problem. thanks for help...    — Debbie H. (posted on May 10, 2003)

You will want to talk to your doctor about estrogen as well as calcium.

Debbie- another thing that can help your bones is weight training exercise. I have to be careful of my bone density and this is what was recommended to me besides a higher intake of calcium. I have a friend with osteopenia who is taking Fozamax once a week to help impede osteoporosis. You might want to check these out for yourself.

Not even close to enough. I also take boron (Tri-Boron) and ipriflavone. Boron helps calcium absorb and ipriflavone helps us not pee it out. My husband has been very successful with the Miacalcin (rx) nasal spray. I had side effects (unusual), but I may try it again. It's a 2nd choice, but for us, the first choice (Fasomax or Actonel) is not an option. Even hefting soup cans, so they say, will help build bone. Primary food sources of calcium are dark green leafies, nuts, seeds & legumes. Dairy products are the least calcium containing foods.
