Question:
HELP one year out and still have major heartburn
I had my gallbladder out so i know it is not that...I take Zantac and I'm starting to think I'm hurting myself instead of healping. Do taking Zantac, tums etc make the matter worse. What can I do to relieve this. This happens almost every day...Thanks — sarah C. (posted on April 22, 2003)

Have you told your surgeon about this? It really isn't normal and you
should be checked out - you might have an ulcer. I had some problems at 6
months post-op and my surgeon put me on Prevacid for a while - just to make
sure. It keeps the acid down and helps prevent damage to the pouch and
esophagus. If you haven't had an endoscopy or Upper GI series done, I'd
call my doctor and discuss the problem with him.

excessive hearburn in my case was due to a very small staple line
disruption. I would call your surgeon.

I agree to call your dr. I had endoscopy a couple of weeks ago and they
found an ulcer. I was wondering why I was having GERD again. They put me
on Aciphex again which is the medication I took for GERD preop. Call your
doc and discuss it with him/her.
