Question:
I have had my Gtube in for a month and it has been really sore
it was supposed to come out in two weeks but that would have been over a month. I was having like burning sensation where the tube goes into my stomach and real bad soreness and tenderness to the touch. I will see the surgeon tomorrow and I am wondering since it is sore in that area and I feel a burning sensation at the hole opening-will this thing hurt like hell coming out and is there any way that I can have it numbed before he takes it out????Sorry this is so long...Tori — TotallyTori (posted on April 9, 2003)

It shouldnt hurt. I was terrified of this thing being removed. And it was
not any big deal. I have actually had two and my doc let me remove it the
second time. The opening will feel much much better once the tube is out
also. good luck :)

I had my G tube in place for a month as well. I too was terrified, but
when I went to have it removed, it didn't hurt at all. In fact I cried
because I was praising the Lord, that it didn't hurt. I've had a wonderful
journey and I know that you will too.
God Bless,

Hi there, Let me tell you! My tubes and stitches stayed in for a month and
10 days. Pure HELL. and I couldn't move or do nothing, because it would
pull and stay VERY sore. My doc had went on a hoilday vacation around
christmas and came back 1/10/03. anyhow I couldn't wait for my appt 1/16 to
come. It seemed like my skin had grown on to my tubes. and I had a feeling
I was in for a ride. I was right. He pulled and tuged and sniped and cut.
(giggling) the tubes not me. All I did was grit my teeth and beared with
it. When it was done I felt way better , alittle sore but happy this stuff
was gone. In a couple of days I was doing housework and doing alot more
things. So don't stress about it. Remember this is my story. and that your
experience may be totally different. Hugs

If one of our patients has had a JP Drain Tube in for a long time we
recommend that they take pain medication as soon as they arrive at the
office. (Of course you will only want to do this if you have someone
driving you.) By the time you sign in - wait in the waiting room - wait in
the exam room - etc. the medication should have taken effect and it will be
an easier experience. If it doesn't hurt at all then you'll only be a
little sleepy from the pain meds. If it hurts then you'll be thankful you
had the meds. When my tubes were removed I opened my mouth to complain and
before I could get the words out it was over - so, no biggie. One good
suggestion for folks who are still dealing with tubes - get yourself a
fanny pack like you'd wear to an amusement park and tuck the drain bulbs
into the fanny pack and you won't have to worry about pulling and tugging
on the tubes and hurting yourself. Wal Mart has fanny packs with long
straps that fit most anyone. It makes the drains alot more bearable. Best
wishes to you!

What I did was keep the area where the tube goes into the skin moisturized
with polysporin to keep it soft. I was terrified to have it pulled, but it
was only a about 4 inches inside me and slid out really fast. Felt like a
slimy worm. I took two of my pain med pills about a half hour before my
appointment, so I was fairly relaxed. It will feel fantastic after that
pain in the a** tube is out. Hugs, Kim S. Open RNY Nov.4/02 (-106)
