Question:
Do you remember me?

I am the one who went to the psych evaluation and the Doctor said I should read dr. Phil's book. It turns out that another psychologist from the surgical group had to go over what my doc said to make sure everything was on the up and up. The second doc said I am depressed and that he would not approve the surgery unless I agree to psych drugs and six months of counseling. Do you remember? Okay. I am going to a different surgeon and getting a second opinion. When I called my insurance company and told them the story, they said they have not even received a copy of my psych evaluation yet. Can I prevent them from getting that copy since I am having another psych evaluation with someone who specializes in Bariatric patients? The lady at the insurance company was asking me what the first PhD's name was and how to spell it? Why did she want to know that unless she is going to try to get a copy of that? I am going out of network now and I think the insurance company is going to pay for it. It does help to have a top notch Chicago lawer in the family.... What do you think? Thanks...    — Marcy G. The way i my Insurance told me,, If your new surgeon doesnt refer you to that psychologist.. then your insurance shouldnt have any reason to contact him. But they are all different.

My first Psych consult also reccommended Therapy - I took that consult to a Psycholgist that my Baristric Dr. recommended and he said the first Dr. didn't know what she was doing and also gave me an out dated test. If you're depressed and obese - hey they go together! If we were perfect we wouldn't need the surgery. I say follow up with a Dr. who your surgeon recommends and be honest - you found a crackpot - but then you just may need some antidepressant too. Good Luck.

YES YES YES!!!! DO NOT ALLOW THAT CRACKPOT DR. TO SEND HIS REPORT TO THE INS. CO. CALL HIM IMMEDIATELY AND TELL HIM YOU FORBID HIM TO DISCLOSE YOUR INFO TO ANYONE (WELL WITHIN YOUR RIGHTS AS A PATIENT). THEN RUSH TO THE OTHER DR., PLAY IT SMART IN YOUR SESSION (DO NOT SAY/TELL TOO MUCH) AND ONCE YOUR ASSURED HE HAS GIVEN YOU THE GREEN LIGHT, GET HIS EVALUATION SENT TO THE INS CO. WHY DO I KNOW THIS? CAUSE THIS WAS EXACTLY HOW IT WENT DOWN FOR ME. DO NOT LET ANY CRACKPOT - ESP. ONE WHO REFERS PEOPLE TO DR. PHIL - PREVENT YOU FROM HAVING THIS SURGERY IF YOU ARE REALLY COMMITED. BEST OF LUCK!

WOW. WHAT A JERK THAT FIRST PSYCH. WAS. AND I HATE DR. PHIL. "YER FAT 'CAUSE YA WANNA BE". ISNT HE THE BRILLIANT ONE. HIS BOOK WOULD DEPRESS YOU EVEN MORE. MY ADVICE TO ANYONE READING THIS IS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS GO TO THE PSYCHOLOGIST THE SURGEONS OFFICE SUGGESTS. USUALLY THEY HAVE SOME KIND OF DEAL BETWEEN THEM AND I THINK RARELY DO THEY NOT CLEAR SOMEONE FOR SURGERY.
