Question:
I have caught a cold.......
I have caught a cold from my kids. I just have a cough, drainage. I am not running a fever. My surgery is the 25th...2 weeks away. I have high blood pressure so I cannot take regular over the counter cough meds. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to take to get rid of this before my surgery? If I still have the cough, will they still do the surgery? If not.... I think I will go totally postal!!! Thanks for any advice! God bless! — dixieb (posted on February 12, 2003)

Before surgery all of my family had colds (about 2 weeks before). I took
Zicam (nasal gel), zinc lozenges, and much Vitamin C. I had the sniffles
one day but it went away.

I came down with a cold a week before surgery. My PCP gave me the Z-Pack, a
very strong antibotic. The day of surgery I was panicked that I might get
"refused", but I was honest with the anesthesiologist. He said as
long as I didn't have chest congestion, I was good to go.

There is cold medication available for people with high blood pressure. I
think it starts with a C...but I don't remember! I am sorry I can't
remember what it is called, but it is out there. You can find it at Target
or Wal-Mart I believe.

I've heard wonderful things about Zicam nasal gel. I just tried it for the
3rd cold I've had in 2 months (I think I'm getting germs at the gym) and my
cold only lasted a couple of days. Good luck!
