Question:
What important questions should I ask?
A week away and I go for my first consultation. I am excited, nervous and scared all wrapped in one. I want to make sure that I do this right by asking everything I should know and getting every detail down so making this decision won't be as hard. So....what should I be asking? Any help will be most appreciative! Hope everyone had the merriest of Christmases and a Happy and blessed New Year to all! — dixieb (posted on December 27, 2002)

Some of the things you may want to know from your surgeon are: 1) How
much intestines will s/he be bypassing. 2) Will s/he be transecting your
stomach or just stapling? 3) What type of post-op diet does s/he recommend?
4) What type of after care does s/he provide? 5) If s/he does only Lap or
Open or one type of WLS over another, I would ask why so. 6) How long has
s/he been performing this surgery? 7) I asked both surgeons I met with
"Why" they do this surgery. I am the type of person that likes
to understand someone's motivation. 8) What are the biggest risks of this
sugery? 9) Other possible complications? There are porbably a million
more you can ask, but I hope this gives you a good start! Congrats on
starting this journey!!! ~Paula M, Open RNY 02/14/02, down 151 lbs from
