Question:
When is it safe to leave the country?
I have planned a "World Tour to Italy, Turkey, & Greece" with some friends for summer 2003. I will be out of the country for 16 days at about 2.5 months post op. Is it safe to think of leaving the convienence of the states so soon after lap RNY? I am concerned about the diet that will be pre-selected for me by our tour guide. I am also limited to luggage(1 large piece). Any suggestions? — judyguay (posted on December 27, 2002)

I was in Norway 2 months after surgery. We were diving above the artic
circle. I went with the approval of my surgeon. The biggest concern was
lifting my duffle bag, which was about 50 pounds. And this did prove to be
a problem, but I found people happy to help me. I would
suggest getting a suitcase on wheels and going with 2 smaller ones, if
they allow it, just expain it is necessary because of recent surgery. Be
sure to buy insurance for you trip, in case anything happens and you need
medical care or a war breaks out.

Went to Mexico for 2 weeks at 2 months. Did fine. I took instant milk with
me and some tuna as supplements. You could also take protein mix. Using
ziplock bags decreases the amount of space needed for the powders and tuna
comes in a bag also. Everything worked out and I lost 9 lbs on vacation.
It was great.
