Question:
I have Humana HMO as of Jan1,2003 Humana is discontinuing my network,Rush.
I have a surgeon who set me up for a Jan.27,2003 date because he is booked but Humana wont cover because they wont be with Rush anymore and wont do follow up care. Can anyone relate or advise? — Angela A. (posted on November 19, 2002)

Have you discussed this with your surgeon? Perhaps he can fit you in under
the circumstances . What if he has a cancellation? You could go to
another doctor for after care that is in Humana's system. Humana's fax #
is 920-617-1430. The person that reviews WLS is Angie. Humana likes WLS
because it saves them in the long run. Discuss this with them and your
doctor. Good luck and God bless you.

Chicago?? I just heard about this. Get the surgeon to move the date up. I
also received an email that indicates that Humana is offering potential
"transiton coverage from 1/1/03-3/31/03 to "qualified"
individuals. Requests for this "transition coverage" can be
directed to the "Market Office" at 877-860-5023. The medical
diagnosis, ICD-9 code, treating physician and treatment plan must be
provided and will be sent tothe Utilization Management Review Dept for
determination of who qualifies for this "transition coverage."
It mignt hinge on having your approval for surgery in place. Keep in mind
that you will need to arrange for follow up care after 3/31/03. If you are
in Chicago, Loyola, Univ. of Chicago, and Northwestern does the surgery as
well. It is possible to transfer approval to another facility.
