Question:
How do you start a local support group?
I am trying to start a local support group in either Madison or Covington (Georgia) depending on where most of the people are comming from. I am just curious if anyone out there can send me some information on how they got their support group started as I would like for this group to be successful. I would appreciate any tips or advice and would love to here if anyone is interested in attending. — Tami C. (posted on September 20, 2002)

Tami- We recently started on in Tallahassee, Fl. They way we got it started
was word of month. We meet once a month on a Saturday from 11:30 to about
1:30. We have met three times. The group started with nine and last time we
had 19 attending the meeting, including several pre-ops. If everyone came
to the same meeting would have about 30 members. Believe word gets around
quick. But another suggestion is to go to the Finding a Peer part of this
site and sending an invitation e-mail to those who are in your area. Also,
my surgeon now tells people about the group and gets them in contact with
us. I help this helps.
