Question:
Has any one ever worked with blue cross blue shield of MA?
I spoke with the doctors office and they said that my insurance company is one of the best to work with. My human resources office also told me that this was the best insurance offered in the state. Has anyone had any experiences with this plan? I called the number on the back of the card and they said the usual " BMI over 40, 100 pounds over ideal weight, letter of medical necessity from pcp and other attemps failed" what evactly are other attemps failed? I have tried about 10 diferent diets but none of them were medically supervised. would that be a problem? — Teekay80 (posted on July 24, 2002)

I have BC/BS PPO of MA - I was approved after 1 week. My PCP wrote that
this was an ongoing battle with me and that over the years I had tried
several diets with no long term success. They longest wait was all the
documentation required: Psych eval., dietician report, PCP letter... I'm
not sure where you are in the process of things, but if you can make the
dietician and Psych appointment ASAP, I waited until I saw the surgeon and
it took so long. Also, if you do not have a strong record of diets with
your PCP, it may not be a bad idea to meet with him/her and express your
desire for the surgery (go prepared, my Dr. also wants it done, so she
really grilled me to be sure I was prepared) I think the two most important
factors of the approval are your PCP and the Psych eval. I am scheduled
for surgery 8/6/02 (open RNY), and I started the process in March. I hope
all goes well for you:~)
