Question:
I have never had a doctor assisted diet yet I have been on everything else how
do I explain or list the diets I have been on? I have not been to weight watchers either. I need to list the diets and exercise programs I have been on for the last few years and I surely could use some help with listing them out in the best way possible. I am talking diets like the zone, atkins, dexatrim, metabolife......etc. Because of the disease I have eating certain foods that are usually good for you make me sick and make me have to visit the hospital after a while. So, I didn't even go there. Any help would be appreciated. I go in for my evaluation tomorrow and see my surgeon on the 26th. Take care. Lisa — Red T. (posted on July 2, 2002)

Most of my dieting had been outside the realm of "supervised".
When it came to trying to get insurance approval, my surgeon recommended
that I go to my regular doctor and start on a 12-week physician supervised
diet, which was a requirement for approval by my insurance company. She
gave me a 1600 calorie diet, I did it and got my approval after one denial
(which was because I hadn't completed it at that time). I'm scheduled for
surgery August 15, too and because of it, I've lost (as of 6/21) an extra
28 pounds I won't have to do later. One of the people I harrassed at my
insurance company said they require it because they feel you will be more
successful if you have some instruction in nutrition and experience under
supervised dieting (for whatever that's worth).

I never was on a doctor supervised diet either. Although I did do Weight
Watchers 3 times. My surgeon gave us a packet which listed all types of
diets and we just had to fill in the times and how much we lost for each
one. So for you, list any diet you have been on, i mean the ones you made
up yourself, too, in any order, and put how many months you were on each,
the weight you lost from the diet, how much you gained back (I usually
would put how much i lost then a + ) and how much you spent on the diet-
that was for insurance reasons especially. Even though i didn't have a
doctor- supervised diet, I went to my PCP and told him I am serious about
this surgery, and he wrote me a letter of referral to "whomever it may
concern" saying he supported it and thinks it is the only way i can be
successful at losing weight and be healthy again" GOODLUCK to you! :)

Eevery time a doctor told me to "push away from the table" or do
this (piece of paper), I counted it as doc supervised. They INTENDED that
if I followd it, it would work. It never did, of course, but they meant it,
I did it, ergo, I counted it.
