Question:
Pain on left side...above hip area...any idea what this may be?
A dull ache started yesterday on the lower left side...sorta just above hip area. Today, it has progressively gotten worse...if I sit for awhile and then get up...it hurts really bad...and I get a bit light headed. I don't want to jump to any conclusions...and rush to the Dr. so I thought I would see if anyone here has ever experienced anything like this. I was constipated for about 5 days last week...to the point of being nauseated...and now I have been having very loose stools, about 2 x's a day. I am currently 8 mths. post op. I am not sure what to think. Any ideas? Thank you...Lisa — Lisa B. (posted on June 26, 2002)

This time of year with heat and dehydration, the first thing that came to
my mind was a kidney stone. You need to have your PCP run a urine sample,
see if there's blood in it, and if there is, then send you for more tests
to see if you've a stone. They can get lodged and cause extreme pain and
infection, so I wouldn't fool around with it.

I was diagnosed with diverticulosis (the condition) 11 yrs ago. It didn't
attack me until a few years later. The diverticulITIS (attack) felt as you
describe. Felt like severe gas that would not move, just in fron of/above
the left hipbone. It got a little worse, but mainly there was no relief.
After 24 hours, I went DUH, this is not gas. The fix was very easy, just
an antibiotioc. I've not had a flare up since my WLS, but the diverticula
are still hanging around waiting, I'm sure. As everyone will say, after
voicing a thought, take it to the doc, possibly your PCP, even.
