Question:
I believe my wife has come down with a virus 5 weeks, post-op?

My wife is 5 weeks post-op tomorrow, yesterday afternoon she started having diarrea, (had constipation last week, took colacis, though it was residue of med.), later in day she started having nausea and no appeaiate, called dr. this morning told her to go back on liquid diet (had been eating just about anything lobster, fried fish chicken wings), and gave her a rx. for regenlon, any one else have similar things happen, please give me a response, i am a little concerned. thanks    — Rich C. hi. sorry to hear your wife isn't feeling well. Diarrhea and nausea are typical symptoms of dumping symprome, so that is a possibility. You did not mention what type of surgery she had. ALso, lobster, chicken wings and fried foods seems to be too soon to tolerate for a person who is 5 weeks post-op. Some people who are a year post-op cannot even tolerate that. So that may be her problem. i am almost 2 weeks post-op, and am suposed to stick to a soft food diet for 3 months. Yogurt, deli meats, soups, stews, canned veggies, eggs, and low fat cheeses are good. Maybe she can try broiled and baked fishes instead of fried? goodluck and hope she feel better!

At about 4 weeks post op, I came down with an awful flu complete w/sore throat and drainage and diareah. I felt terrible because I had not regained all my strength from the surgery. I could not keep down much that week at all. Mostly clear liquids and broth type soups. I also lost 12 lbs that one week...how I will never know. I did survive the ordeal and felt much better about a week or so later. Tell your wife to take it easy, follow her drs orders, stay hydrated and let you spoil her rotten <smile>. Hope she feels better soon.

At 6 weeks, I developed a sudden fever, nausea, vomiting and it turned out to be a staph infection. If she doesn't have a fever, then it's probably not a virus or infection. It could be the food she's eating, at 5 weeks she seems to be eating pretty solid foods and her system may not be tolerating them at all. Maybe if she switched to soft or pureed foods, she'd start feeling better. Good luck!
