My wife had Lap "RNY" on 5-8, and to have emergency open surgery on 5-9 in order to fix 2 leaks in her bowel, she was discharged from hospital yesterday, the doctor is happy with her progress, my question is when can i relax at home every time my wife sneezes or coughs i check on her to make sure she is ok, i know there are the few exceptions, but when is it safe to say that you are over the point when most complications occur? — Rich C. Hi Rich ~ God bless you both, it sounds like you & your family went
through a trying time with your wife and the healing of her surgery. I am
thankful it sounds like it turned out good though. I am not a doctor but I
would assume that they would not have released her without them making sure
all was okay. She's going to be sore for quite some time - I had the lap
RNY on the 9th of April and I'm still not feeling 100% good - I hear open
procedures can take 4 - 6 weeks to get a somewhat normal feeling back. I
think it's incredibly sweet that your so concerned - my husband was the
same way. Everytime he passed by me, he had to rub on my hair or give me a
kiss or something. Breath a bit easier, if at all possible. Say some
healing prayers and you & her will start to be back to normal, I bet,
before you know it...even better this time. She will be amazed to the
difference she will feel in 6 short weeks - a bit better everyday and her
strength will come back as well. Best of Blessings to you all ~ PS - don't
cook in front of her for a while - the smell can send a person into
somewhat of a depressed mode - maybe do the cold sandwich or a can of soup
or something like that.

Thank God you wife is recovering from the surgeries :) For me it was
terrible trying to sleep that first week or so, slept in a recliner, was
the most comfortable position. Truly felt tolerable after a month and
somewhat like myself after 3 months. Had open RNY on 9/12/01, feel
wonderfully fine! Hopefully there will be no more complications for your
wife and she will recover nicely, and slowly. God's blessings.
