Question:
What can be causing this abdominal pain?

I am 13 days post op (open RNY) and I have noticed the last couple nights that I have an uncomfortable feeling high and on the right side of my abdomin. My doctor removed my gallbladder, so I know that is not it. It hurts into my back also. I am on full liquids and have not thrown up once. What can this be?    — Gail S. (posted on March 12, 2002)

I had the same problem. Felt like a sickening pain. I believe it is gas buildup. Anyway I started taking Pepcid Complete which cured the problem. When I told my WLS surgeon about it, he prescribed Nexium. My prescription has now run out, but I have no more problem although I still have gas buildup. Apparently it is a temporary condition while your stomach is healing.

I also had this problem when I was a new post-op. I called my surgeon's office, and his nurse said that when your gallbladder is removed, there's a little room in there for things to "shift" and not to worry about it. It should go away within a couple of weeks. Good luck!
