Question:
has anyone had a fistula form between the 2 stomachs..what did you do?

I'm 6 wks post-op. At 3 days post they discovered a leak in the new stomach. At 10 days it had developed a fistula to the lower stomach. Has anyone else experienced this? What did your surgeon do? What problems did it cause? I'm the first that my surgeon had had w/this development.    — [Anonymous] (posted on January 11, 2002)

I did not experience this first hand, but have known a few here locally. In the cases of these people, the acid from the lower stomach found its way back up hill into the pouch & was causing trouble. In those cases, they had to go back in & resect the lower stomach. That is, to remove it. I also had mine removed with my revision, precisely because I had seen this rare complication and because I'd had a 30 yr history of ulcer. The last thing I needed was an ulcer in the lower stomach. Scary, I know, but I have not been attacked by an ulcer of any kind in 2 years now, which is just dandy with me.
