I don't know about New York, but I have seen some people who have gone to
their state's Department of Voc Rehab. It's worth a phone call.

Hi... The previous post mentioned vocational rehab and that is an excellent
suggestion. They will ask you questions like: why are you unemployed; are
you unemployed as a result of your weight/health; do you have skills that
you are unable to use because of your weight/health, etc. You should
contact your state Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and offices are
usually found in your county seat. Make an appointment to meet with them
and they will also work with you simultaneously on job training, etc. that
could help you in meantime in seeking employment. Once you are in the
system then you work with them on their covering this surgery. They will
look too at medical necessity and documentation of history. Don't give up
though as patience sometimes brings rewards. I am a pre-op waiting for
insurance approval from an appeal. Best wishes to you.

You might look into a job that requires little physical activity like
workng at a call center, just for the insurance. Dont despair, if your
broke with little income you might qualify for coverage by medicaid. Its a
state sponsored welfare type program. Whatever you do DONT feel bad about
taking assistance, once you thinner and healthier give something back by
helping others. Volunteering at a food bank for instance is great exercise
moving cases whilew helping others.

I know someone here in Texas that had the surgery through Texas Rehab. They
were in a similar situation as you. I'm sure NY must have something
similar. Good Luck
