Question:
yeast infections

i have had open rny 3 weeks ago and in my 31 years have has thrush once when i was sixteen and have now got it 2 days ago and am natural yougurt to treat it. did you know that thrush thrives on the b group vitamins and because we have to have b12 injections this could proably be to much of a boost for our bodies to handle in the thrush are and this is why it inflammes...just a thought.. hope this helps in some way...    — Rachel F. I got a nasty yeast infection plus thrush (complete with the black tongue) post op after taking chewable augmentin antibiotics for pneumonia. Yogurt and nystatin take way too long to get rid of it, so I asked my doc for the Mycelex troches that you dissolve in your mouth. The yeast was gone well before I finished the meds.

I am so glad I read this...I am 11 days post op and I rarely to never get yeast infections. For some inexplicable reason, immediately post op I started itching externally and had a sore mouth and woke up with a nasty whitish coated tongue and mouth which was hard to brush off. I deduced that it was yeast from the antibiotics they give you IV in the hospital. The mouth thing went away quickly after I gargled with mouthwash a few times a day, but I am still dealing w/ the other and have been using my husband's Lotrimin. Our bodies have a very delicate balance of Ph and things like antibiotics destroy the healthy bacterial flora which helps control the yeast growth.

I too developed a horrific yeast infection upon my release fom the hospital. I spent a week suffering with over the counter remedies, none of which worked at all---bringing no relief whatsoever. Finally, 7 days post op, I called my ob-gyn begging for something, explaining that I had just had gastric bypass and would need the cream, not any pills at that that point. He ordered something for me that worked in 24 hours. My advice to any pre-op women...call your ob-gyn before your surgery and have something waiting for you when you get home...just in case.
