Question:
Could someone please tell me the co-morbities that Tri-Care Prime has.
I can not find a pamphlet on Wls with Tri-Care Prime, but I did get a referal to see a Wls surgeon in Columbia,MO. I am exactly 100 pounds over with a BMI of 39. My appointment with the Dr. is in Feb. and I am so scared he is going to tell me I am not qualifed, and I have been dealing with weight all of my life, so has my mom. Please any advice. From a Tri-Care person, I wish our military hospital did active duty spouses but they don't. — [Anonymous] (posted on November 8, 2001)

The minimum co-morbidities I am aware of for TriCare Prime are being at
least 100 pounds overweight, and a BMI of at least 40. They do take into
consideration things such as a family history of diabetes and heart
problems...you may have co-morbidities you haven't even really considered,
such as hip pain, back pain etc. With a BMI of 39 and your weight, I'd
think you'd pretty much qualify. I'm not an expert tho! This is just based
on my personal experience with TriCare Prime!

According to the tricare booklet I have, it's 100 lbs overweight with co
morbiities (which they don't specify) or 200% over ideal weight. since I
started at 410 I didn't need any co morbs. Still, here are some to
consider: acid reflux, any joint or back pain, diabetes, heart problems,
sleep apnea, edema or swelling, water retention, high blood pressure.
Best of luck

RE: Comorbidities for Tricare prime..... I have Tricare Prime.. and I was
talking to the local office here. She looked at the referral and said the
doc did a great. She said most important was my diet history, followed my
medical issues. The only comorbidities listed on my referral where joint
pain and borderline hypertension. I got my approval in less than three
days. Your diet history is the most crucial.
