Question:
Can I take anything pre-op for alergies?
I think I have an alergy but am not sure if I can take anything. My pre-op appt. is tomorrow and surgery on 11/7. I have been taking Veetid (antibiotic) for over a week now and my cough and voice is still bad. Could be bronchitis but I would of thought that the veetid would of cleared it up. Is there any allergy meds I can take? Thanks — Kelly C. (posted on November 5, 2001)

I had a cold right before surgery and nothing I was taking caused them any
concern when I told them the day before at my preop testing. I think I was
taking Sudafed Cold/Sinus, Echinacea, Vit. C, Cold Eez w/Zinc. BUT call
your surgeon's office and ask. Some hospitals are different and they would
know best.

I would be very, very careful with taking anything this close to your
surgery date. Talk with your doctor, or staff to get the go ahead. You
don't want any adverse reactions. Some meds thin the blood which could
increase the chance of having a blood clot that could be fatal. Just be
careful. I understand your concern with getting a cold so close to
surgery, mine is this friday. Good luck.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I will just wait and see what the doc
says. My appt. is today at 11:30. Say a pray for me. Thanks Kelly
