Question:
Does anyone know how soon after surgery I can get back to normal chores?
I live on a horse farm. (15 horses 2 of which are new babies!) I have to do twice daily chores that include feeding and watering and cleaning stalls. There is no one else but me to do this. I am setting up extra feed and water for a 3 day hospital stay while I am gone having by-pass surgery. But what about when I get home? Any thoughts on normal lifestyle return after I get home? — Dazed-n-Confused (posted on May 8, 2009)

My surgeon actually encourages us to return to "normal" as
quickly as possible, and said I could actually go back to work 7 days after
my Lap RNY, but that I would be medically limited to lifting, pushing or
pulling NO MORE than 15 POUNDS for six weeks.

If you can get some help during that first week or two, I'd certainly
encourage you to. I breezed through my bypass surgery. (I was one of the
lucky ones & hope you are, too.) Even so, you are going to be really
weak for a couple of weeks. If you absolutely HAVE to be the one doing
those things, be sure not to lift more than the doctor tells you at a time.
Just take it very easy, and break up your chores into smaller tasks
throughout the day. Don't try to push yourself too hard, too fast. Your
body will be your best guide. LISTEN to it. If you feel too fatigued and
in too much pain, then it's time to stop. Truly....get some extra help
around the place if you can, at all. Good luck, and God bless!

I had lap vertical sleeve on March 25 and tried to vacume the floors 6 days
later and found myself in very bad pain the next day and for a while
afterwards. The first couple of weeks you need to take it easy.
