Question:
Has anyone on here been post op for more than 5 years?
I am considering having lap band surgery and really want to consider all the possible side effects. One thing that really concerns me is the effect this surgery could have on me years down the line. I am considering doing this because I want to live a longer life, so its important to me to know the long term effects of this good and bad. Thanks!! — JayB (posted on August 15, 2006)

I am over 5 years post RNY, gained some weight:( Still way thinner happier
and healthier than pre op. Honestly losing the weight was the most fun
thing i have EVER done:) The band was in trial when I choose the RNY so
there arent a lot of 5 yeaqr bandsters. You might ask this at our band
board.

I did a lot of research on the band, but was not approved. It has been the
standard in Europe for about 8 years. It has only been approved in this
country (I think!) about 3-4 years. I do not think it has been arounf long
enough to know what a 29 y.o. will deal with when they are 65. I know my
surgeon does triple the number of bands per month then he did when I first
started the process.

I have only been banded for a short while. You may want to go over to
lapbandtalk.com. They have people from all over the world, some who have
been banded for more than 5 yrs.

I am over 6 years post distal RNY. I'm doing just fine. But, there is the
forever supplementation and I'm sure that's what has kept me healthy. One
has to be committed to a lifetime of vitamins and protein regimens. Of
course, for myself, after 6 years, everything has just become a habit. I'm
also over 60 years old....so I figure whatever will actually get me in the
end would more than likely be an accident or old age. Regards~

I'm coming up on 12 years with a distal RNY, weight is still gone. I work
at my nutrition, but it works. Our doc did trial bands in the early 90's
so some of those people are still around locally. We've been following
those done out of country since the late 90's, as well.
