Question:
PERMANENT WAVE BEFORE SURGERY
Does anyone have any experience with perming of the hair before surgery? I am having my surgery in 1 week and wonder if anyone know's if the perm will hold if I get it done before surgery. And will it make my hair fall out fast too? Thanks — LOUISE M. (posted on February 29, 2000)

I didn't have my hair permed before surgery, but a friend of mine did and
she had no problems. I would definately recommend that you perm your hair
before instead of waiting til after. But if in doubt, ask you beautician
when you make the appointment. Good luck and congratulations on the big
day. Becky beginning 270 down 88lbs. Surgery date 8/19/99.

I had my hair pered 3 days b4 surgery and had no problems although the
hairdresser said it(the perm) might fall out due to anesthesia. I'm glad I
did it anyway cause my hair was much easier to care for with the perm after
surgery.

I am a hairdresser and I can tell you that a perm before surgery is the
best way to go and the surgery will not make the perm fall out. The perm
will have no affect on wether or not your hair will fall out. The
anesthesia is the one to blame for that. The only thing you may notice is
your hair being a little more dry than usual. A good conditioner after you
get home should do the trick!

My surgery date is Jan.12, 04. I plan on having a perm hopfully right
after Christmas. I have very fine, thin hair and it's the only way I'll
look decent. Plus it's so much easier to take care of. I always have some
breakage with my perms, no matter what I do. So I'm not afraid of more
breaking, etc. Jan
