Question:
I am 65 and wondering if Medicare Pays
Does Medicare and supplimental Insurance pay the whole bill for Gastric Bypass and what are the steps they make you go through first before you can have it. I have all the Illnesses to get it done-- copd, diabetes , high blood pressure, bmi. Yhanks — RosanneH (posted on October 26, 2010)

I got my medicare in August and had my rny on September 1st. (Miami,FL) I
don't even know what plan I have but they paid everything. I only had to
pay $3. I had to an approval from my primary, physiologist and
nutritionist. I also had a chest xray. Feel free to contact me with any
questions.

With the other conditions that you mentioned, you should have no trouble
getting your surgery. Medicare normally pays 80% and your supplement will
pick up all or a portion, depending on the policy that you have. Call
them, and they will tell you. Bloodwork and a chest x-ray are required
prior to any surgery and usually an EKG also just to insure that you are in
good health and low risk for surgery. Even if you did have to pay a small
portion on this surgery, it is well worth it. Good luck, and God bless!

Yes, Yes, Yes. I am 67 and had my RNY surgery in January of this year. I
went from 265 pounds at the time of surgery to a slim and trim 130 pounds
at this time. Just half a person. I have more energy now than I can
remember having in my 30's. I feel like a new person and recommend it for
anyone with a problem. You must stick with the program. I attend a support
group at Clovis Hospital every month and it helps a lot.
I was a diabetic for over 35 years, high colesterol, high blood pressure
and on over twenty five drigs. Now all of that is in the past.
Good luck to you, life really starts after 65.

I have Medicare and supplimental Insurance (scan) and they paid all but of
course you pay your co-pay per day in the hospital which was only $50 per
day ($100)for me. Try it you loose nothing by trying. I had my surgery in
DEC 2009 and so far I have lost 84 lbs gastric bypass in Burbank,
California

I had RNY when I was 66. The requirements that I had to meet was that I
had to have a BMI of at least 35 and have at least one co-morbidity such as
high blood pressure or diabetes. (I have both of those.) My supplemental
was TriCare for Life. Between both of those I paid nothing myself.
Greatest thing I ever did for myself! Would do it again in a heart beat!
Good luck!
