Question:
It hurts!

Hello everyone. I had surgery on Wed (5 days ago) I am not doing so well. I am experiencing a lot of pain. I also have lots od nausea and diarreah. I called my doctor this morning and he said it's normal. But i feel worse than I did the second at the hopital. I want to cry because of thi pain. He prescribed nausea meds so I can keep liquids in so I don't become dehydrated. How long does this take. I can't even stand or walk for a short periods. Please let me know if anyone has experienced the same issues. Please help. I'm in so much pain.    — alwaysalex (posted on August 2, 2009)

Well I did have some mild pain after surgery for a few weeks, since I have a very low tolerence for pain my Dr. gave me Lortab exlixir. The liquid pain med helped me get over the hump for a few weeks.

I am 5 and a half years post op but I remember the pain well. You have to walk. Also take Pepcid it helps with gas. They blow your stomach up with air in surgery. It takes a while for it to come out. Walking helps a lot with this. If you take a pain reliever make sure its liquid and meant for babys.

I am 13 months out and tho I didn't have pain, I did have awful discomfort fromt he gas. I took a bumpy ride int he ride and it helped me to get the gas out. I had the loose stools also..it passes. Try to push thru the nausea. Sip sip sip. My daughter just had the surgery 5 weeks ago and she had more pain than I did and still has loose stools. But no gas. We are all so different. Please call your surgeons office and ask for anything you can take for gas. The pain should let up once the gas gets moving, if its fromt he gas. But if its more like incisional or where we were cut inside, you need to get to the dr's office. Make sure you don't have a fever and the skin isn't red. Best of luck to you! Ir does get better ...and better and better. Hugs n God Bless, Kim

I had the same problem post op and it was related to lactose intolerance (which I was not before surgery)and sugar alcohols. I switched to lactose free milk and stayed away from crystal light and it improved. Try warm liquids like decaf tea and strained soups. Your main goal is to keep hydrated. It will improve and then you can worry about getting your protein in, that happens slowly. Good luck.

My doctor perscribed Lortab liquid for pain and Reglan for the gas a nausea. They both helped me greatly. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain so less than I week out I felt good enough to vacume my floors and set myself back in pain really bad. But I agree with previous poster. I learned from having 2 c-sections, a hysterectomy and a gall bladder removal surgery that the sooner and more you get up and move around the sooner you heal and it helps the pain go away quicker. Even if it is to get up and walk circles around the room or I went around my dinner room table I could hold onto chairs as I went if I needed too. I really hope you are feeling better soon. By three weeks out I was feeling really great and ready to do almost anything so it will get better soon.

I had my surgery RNY June 29th and had the problem with walking for the first few days, but to make it worse when I came home my period started to. It was no fun, but after about a week I was getting around good. I never had any nausea, but did have diarreah. I never lost my taste or threw up anything. I haven't had any problems. I lost 22 before surgery and now after surgery lost 24 total 46. hang in there everything will get better as time goes on. I feel great and I know you will to.
