Question:
When people speak of total weight loss after surgery....

do you mean including your pre-op diet phase as well? I am confused because I lost 16lbs before surgery on liquids, then since RNY (12/06/07) I have lost an additional 16 lbs. I tell people I have lost 32 lbs...not just 16. Is that incorrect? When someone says they lost 30lbs in one month is that really all after the surgery???    — Lisa S. (posted on December 27, 2007)

I tell people my total weight loss including my pre-surgery weight loss. I take full credit for that initial 20 lbs. and it's all part of the journey. -Jasmine

I dont include it! My total loss from the day of surgery is 54 pounds but I lost a total of 75 since I started the preop diet. Good Job on your weight loss! It is so much fun having your clothes get to big! Good Luck

Some do, and some don't. If you go to support group meetings, the patients that speak normally make the distinction of pre-op and post-op weight loss, then state the total.

I speak of the weight I have lost since my surgery, in general, since what I lost before wasn't because of the surgery. I have lost 25.5 pounds since my surgery date of 11/07/07, but I lost 14.5 pounds before the surgery for a grand total of 40 pounds. ~Shirley

Sadly I didn't lose any before surgery, so mine is all after surgery. Good luck and welcome to the losing side!

yes, i included the pre-surgery weight. this is because you still lost that weight. my highest weight, no matter when it was, was at 330. i now weigh 170, but want to weigh 145, and can't get there. maybe i won't ever get there...sadly, but hopefully this issue will be resolved. email me at [email protected] www.pamfit.com pam

when i speak to people about my weight loss i do it two different ways. When it is someone from my weight loss group i only talk about what I have lost since the operation. Anyone else I include everything i lost. At 7 months out I have lost 82 pounds since the operation but a total of 109 pounds.

Lisa honey you tell them anything you want. You have lost 32 pounds and shout that from the rooftops if you please. If they want you to break it down for them, I think they are being a little too nosy unless they are really close friends. You break it down if YOU want to, and if you don't, just tell them your success, 32. Take care. Patricia P.

Hey Lisa, I know as of Christmas Eve (34 days out) I had lost 40 pounds and that was all following surgery...my doctor did not have me do any type of post-op liquid (or any other type) diet (just said to eat lightly the last 48 hours or so as to not have too much stuff hanging around in there). I would give yourself full credit for the whole amount. Besides, you wouldn't have been on the liquid diet if it had not been for having the surgery, right? Good Luck to the New You in the New Year!
