Question:
Any ideas on how to minimize swelling and numbness after a brachioplasty?
I had the gastric by-pass three years ago. I went from size 22 to size 4. I had a TT and a brachioplasty 4 weeks ago. My arms are still sore, numb and swelled. Please, any help will be a blessing. Sometimes I fell a sharp sting.. I live alone and I am getting scared. Thanks Salete — Salete (posted on August 30, 2006)

I saw a documentary on this type of surgery on the Discovery health
channel. It is going to be awhile before your arms are back to
"normal." One plastic surgeon said she didn't like performing
this type of surgery. Here is a website with products for those who have
had this surgery:

I had my arm lift 15 months ago. I had some swelling for several months,
not enough for most people to notice. My incisions are still numb in
spots. I wore compression garments on my arms for the first 3 weeks and
that helped to minimize the swelling alot. I also kept my arms elevated as
much as possible even after I stopped wearing the compression garments.
Four weeks is not very long as far as the healing process goes, you use
your arms for just about everything you do so they will be sore. Talk to
your surgeon if you are worried something is not right.

My arm lift was 11 months ago and it is still numb in a few places. Your
plastic surgeon should have given you compression garmets for your arms. I
wore mine for three months and it makes all the difference in the world.
If your surgeon did not give them to you then do yourself a favor and GET
THEM!

I wore ace wraps on my arms for 2 weeks and I had some swelling, but not
real bad. Numbness after plastics can last months, years or never go
away. I still have numb areas 2 years after my LBL.
the sharp stings are the nerves waking up.
