Question:
Does it matter when to take in water?
I am very thirsty in the mornings and I drink the majority of my 64oz by 9:00am. Do I still get the same benefits from water? — MARSHA D. (posted on August 14, 2002)

You are getting the benefits of drinking your water, but since you are
drinking it so early, have you ever thought about upping the intake and
drinking more throughout the day? In this heat, it would probably be easy
to do. Make sure if you are outside working that you increase the intake
anyway because of excess sweating. It also prevents heat-related swelling
in some people. Good Luck, you're doing great.

I didn't take the time to check when you had your surgery, but my concern
would be that you are drinking too much in a short period of time and
possibly stretching your pouch. I have been told never to eat or drink
more than 1 cup at a time....I usually drink 25 oz of water in 1 hour time.
Glad you are getting water in though...it really is important.

I am the original poster. I am almost 1 year out and have lost 132 pounds.
I never thought about drinking too fast for my pouch sake. It goes down
fast now. I did go slower when I was a earlier on in my journey.

Marsha, I do the same thing you do -- and our stats are similar, too. I'm
11 months out, 135 lbs. down, and I drink two litres of water, usually in
the morning. I do drink other stuff in the afternoon, including my decaf
nonfat latte, which has the added advantage of boosting my protein levels.
I don't know about stretching your pouch with water, but I think as long as
you're not chugging it down in great huge gulps, you shouldn't have too
much problem. Why not check with your doctor?

Good question, I've wondered this myself. I generally drink a great deal
of water before even leavig for work. I still drink a fair amount at the
end of the work day and at least twleve ounces at night, but I'd say the
bulk of my water intake is in the morning. I do 36 ounces in about an hour
and a half and am not worried about stretching my pouch.

You cannot stretch your pouch by drinking liquids-its impossible. Liquid
simply flows thru the opening in the stoma. As to when to drink water, it
would make more sense to provide fluids to your body throughout the day
than to drink it all at once. A steady flow of liquid to the organs sounds
more reasonable, but I don't have any scientific proof to back it up.
Congrats on getting in 64 oz-some don't get that much!
