Question:
Has anybody with insurance had lapband and then had bypass???
I had lapband October 2010 and have only lost 20 pounds because I am constantly loosing and gaining. I am thinking of having bypass but don't know what my insurance will say I have bluecross. Has anybody done this and had a problem with their insurance and were you glad you did the bypass!!! — melvina424 (posted on March 3, 2011)

My wife had a revision in August from Lap-Band to RNY bypass. NY BC/BS paid
for both. She's lost 97 pounds so far and is much happier with by-pass than
she was with Lap-Band. Your surgeon's office should have an idea about your
particular insurance--they've worked with many different companies and most
have very specific guidelines for sygeries & revisions. Good luck!

I had lapband in May 2009 and had it taken out and had bypass in July of
2010. The lapband didn't work for me. Couldn't keep food down, kept
choking. I have Blue Cross and didn't have any trouble getting the second
procedure done. As long as you doctor has documented your appointments,
you should be fine. I have had a little more success with the bypass, but
it has still gone slow for me. I have lost about 70lbs since the bypass.

I had a lap band put in January of 2007. I had only lost 55 pounds in a
year and a half. I was very discouraged and wished that I had opted for
RNY.
In 8/09 I had been having severe stomach pain and put through several test.
After a upper GI found that the band had slipped I was rushed into
emergency surgery. Sept 21, 09 I had RNY. My insurance did cover without
any questions due to complications with the lap-band. Today I weigh 135
lbs!!! I have lost a total of 155 pounds!!
If could make that choice all over again I would have opted for RNY to
begin with. I think the Lap-band should be BAND!
It was a very scary time but a blessing in disguise!
Good luck to you!
