I'm just over a year outm, and when I feel the need to burp and can't, it's usually a signal to me that I've eaten too much or not chewed well enough. Make sure you chew chew chew and STOP when you feel satisfied, not full. As far as your throat hurting when you swallow, well, when they did your surgery, they put a tube down your throat to breath for you, and sometimes depending on your neck size and how narrow your esophagus is, you might experience some slight abrasion or bruising that will take a while to go away. If it bothers you a lot, talk to your surgeon or anesthesiologist about it. They may be able to shed some light on your pain and what to do about it.

Have you talked to your surgeon? I aslk this due to I was having issues li8ke that and then I started to throw up after a few weeks of the burping and I also had the pain when I would swallow. I had a scope and found that I needed to be stretched and I also had a few staples that needed to be removed. By the way I had RNY on Dec 30, 09 and just now feel better after I had teh doctor to scope me. So, I would say call your doctor and ask all the questions you have over teh issues you are having. Good Luck it does get better as the time goes on.

You should be on mostly liquids at this point. Also, be very careful when you drink or eat not to swallow air at the same time. Be mindful of this when you eat or drink, it is easy to do without realizing it. Also, eating too fast or too much will create this feeling also...take TINY bites and swallows. Congrats on your surgery and best of luck!

You stoma is like a funnel..So when you eat anything thick like potatoes, it sits there at the narrow part of the funnel (stoma) anything yu eat on top of that puts pressure on your stoma and nothing will go down...Air will get trapped and be forced into you pouch making you feel the need to belch...It's prefectly normal...I suggest you eat much smaller bites and chew longer so the saliva in your mouth breaks the food down and makes it moister...That will help it slide down easier without causing a stop up...like a clogged sink or funnel...Hope that helps Eat small and chew chew chew..Chew liquids and soft foods too...That gets your saliva juices flowing which helps with digestion right there in your mouth!!
