Question:
will this stop my operation

I'm 3 pounds away from my goal weightto having the surgery. I'm going to have a RNY. I found out that it should be sometime in June. My problem is I hate telling you all this, but this is one place you can put everything out on the table and get answers. I have never had good teeth I brush them, but I have always had problems one way or anther with them. I flossed them and the next day my gums were swelled, and still are. Is this something that wil posepone my surgery if it's not taken care of before hand? I don't have money for a dentist bill along with my surgery. I have read other entry's where someone had said their teeth were bad before surgery and they ended up falling out, and they had no choice and got false teeth. Is this true?, and Is waht I'm dealing with something anyone else faced before surgery? I just want to know would this problem stop me from having my surgery? I'm going to take care of it I just dont want to have my surgery poseponed. I know I'm not the only one out there with this problem, cuz I have read enrty's about teeth problems, but at the time I was Ok, and thought to myself that can be me. Whatever way it goes i know God has a plan for me. Please if you can anwser my question I would very Thankful. Sorry it has to be on teeth of all things. Thank you for answers, and I'm going to the dentisit even tho I hate going. That's why I have this problem Lazy {LOL} Thanks again Theresa L    — treeeza (posted on April 28, 2009)

I'm not giving advise - just telling you my story. I've always had bad teeth. I think it's part heredity but also a result of not being careful and, of course, eating bad food. Anyway, my teeth problem did not prevent me from having WLS. A few months after the surgery I ended up having my teeth pulled and replaced with dentures. A few months after that ordeal I had hernia surgery and had no problems. I hope this helps you a little.

hi i work at a dental office so i have a lot of experience in this field. i was just wondering are any of your teeth sore or sensitive? do you have a bump on your gums that looks like a pimple of a significant swelling in 1 area? let me know i'll tell you what to do or what I think. I deal with patients like this all the time.

I was just wondering to do have a cavity on the tooth. Is there a filling or crown there? Does this tooth have a Root canal in it? If not and your tooth is not sore you could be suffering from a periodontal gum swelling. This can be caused by food or calculus under the gums. If this is the case you will need a good cleaning in the area and possibly a deep scaling near that tooth. Sometimes people take care of this on their own w/ a water pick. The gums may bleed but they should heal and the swelling should go down. If there is an infection in the tooth from a cavity, large filling, crown or previous failing root canal this type of infection could possibly delay your operation. I've had a lot of patient's who were about to have surgery and their surgeon made them come to see us before surgery to have an extraction or root canal to take care of their infection. My recommendation is this. Try a deep cleaning on the gums. Do this a couple days in a row and see if it helps. If the swelling comes back, you may definately want to go to a dentist. I know you don't have insurance, but you don't want to delay your surgery. You may need a root canal or something else. If this is not a gum infection it will decay your surgery. Don't take it lightly. Good luck to you. Let me know how things go.
