Question:
Had my rny on 3-2, I am learning the signs of being full.... How do you know?

I feel I am doing ok, but I have sooo many questions on this issue. Is it the slight pain I get inbetween my breat? When I burp? After a meal and I drink my protein through out the day, I feel this way. How do you get your fluids in when you feel this way. Am I taking too big of sips. Am I freaking out. Need some imput so I think I am ok. Then after all that how do you know you are hungry? I feel this in the morinig only. Still losing, therefore, must be doing something right. thanks so much for your input.    — ALESIA (posted on March 13, 2009)

I did not have a sensation of hunger for four months. If you are urping you are eating to fast or too much. small sips all day long. Dont worry about how much you get in at first. Just do as much as you can. Use a medicine cup to measure how much you should do at a time. Allow 20 minutes between servings at least. Slow and easy

The slight pain between your breasts is eating or drinking too fast...The burps can be painful if the air is forced down quickly with liquid or food and then comes back up...This is all very normal...And you will not feel hunger for a long long time. The hormones "gherlin" that create hunger are created in the lining of your old stomach...So use this time to ENJOY learning to eat so little and never feel hunger! This is what we always wanted...and now when it happens it's such a strange thing that we want it back so we can enjoy the feeling of first hunger then fullness...These are the thing of the past...You need to learn to eat til you are satiated...Not full and in the very beginning, you need to just eat to get in your protein and water! AND vitamins! It's strange...pay attention to your eating style and learn all the new signals and warnings...Good luck...you'll get it!

I didn't necessarily feel full. I ate the measured out food and was done with it. I ate 3 meals at semi-regular times, This is the beauty of no appetite. Eat what the dr's told you, measure out the food --do the 4-6 bites waiting 5 minutes between bites, chew chew chew, eat for no less than 20 minutes and no longer than 30.. wait to drink for 1 hour after, and you will do fine. If I did eat too much I got a pressure in my belly, and backed off next time, but some foods may make you feel full over others..such as meat versus scrambled eggs. I hope this helps..and Good luck to you! Use this time to re develope your eating habits and eat to live ..not live to eat. As far as fluids go..if you have to ...I sometimes needed to set my timer for 30 seconds or 1 minute and took a sip every time it went off. Hugs,Kim

Hi, I'm 19 days post-op lap rny. I found myself to start feeling full when I start to burp alot. I only have the pressure where you're talking about when I eat too fast or don't mush something in my mouth enough. I'm only getting to the point now where I can get enough fluid into me. It takes a while to build up to your desired levels. I found cold water didn't work well for me at first, but juices and broth were fine. I'm on pureed now and am getting in alot of pureed meats/peas/lentils, so I'm not having to do alot with the supplement proteins (thank God!).

Hi Alesia! If you are burping or hiccupping, you are probably getting full. Try very small bites chewed until they are almost liquid and sip very small sips of liquids. Good luck on your Journey!! Terry T in Galveston

I've heard others get allergy symptoms such as a nasal drip. I don't get nasal drips but I do start sneezing.

its kinda weird for me. i am 9 weeks post op rny also. the first 4 weeks i didnt have any kind of feeling of fullness. i just measured what they told me and ate it. and then these last 4 weeks it seems like i cant even finish the measured out stuff..which i am loving. so i guess everyone is different. but the fullness i get is extreme pressure between my breast bone. and i dont even finish my portion. once i feel this, i stop.
