Question:
Diet pill
It has been 4 1/2 years since my surgery. I have been basically the same weight since I lost the 150 the first year of surgery. My question is that I just started taking Zantrex 3 for diet. It gives me an energy boost and also help curb appetite. Has anyone taken this medicine? Are there any real dangers of taking diet pills 4 years after surgery? I still would like to lose about another 20 lbs. — irma617 (posted on January 9, 2007)

Why do you want to curb your appetite with drug. Why don't you try doing
more exercise and doing a good healthy high protien low carb diet for a
month. Watch the news all those companies are being sued by the federal
government. The only danger is what your body is absorbing with those
drugs. JMO

If diet pills were effective we would all not have needed surgery. They can
increase blood pressure, heart rate, and be habit forming. Some can even
cause a stroke! Eventually your body becoems used to the effects and you
may not feel that energy increase unless you take more and more of the
drug. If you do lose any weight on them you will gain it back without
taking measures to change habits (i.e. diet and exercise). There have been
professional athletes who have died taking diet pills. And they were ion
shape and healthy. Please be careful. Best bet is to eat less and exercise
more if you want 20 more lbs to go. Howwever, my surgeon t4ells us that
your body generally stops losing at t point where it feels comfortable and
if it has been 4 years you are probably at that point. Good luck to you!

Hi Irma, I would personally NEVER take diet pills. They have never done
any good for the long term. They cause more problems than they cure. It
does not seem like a good risk for only 20 pounds. I agree with previous
posters, boost up your exercise, cut out carbs, drink more water . You
have done extremely well to keep off 150 pounds for 4.5 years. Try to
visit the WLS-grads board here, someone there may be able to help too.
Good luck to you. Angela
