Question:
CURE FOR DRY MOUTH????
I AM 15 DAYS POST OP TODAY AND I CANT GET RIDE OF DRY MOUTH. I AM SO THIRSTY AND CANT SEEM TO DO ANYTHING TO QUENCH MY THIRST. WATER DOESNT HELP, CRYSTAL LIGHT DOESNT HELP. I KNOW IM GETTING DRY MOUTH FROM THE PROTINE SHAKES, BUT I HAVE TO STILL DRINK THEM. B4 SURGERY I WOULD JUST CHEW SOME GUM, BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD NOT TO FOR THE SAKE OF SWALLOWING IT. ANY SUGGESTIONS? — PHATBOY (posted on December 19, 2006)

I am 6 weeks out, and thirst was a major problem and still is. My
suggestion is to constantly carry around a water bottle, crystal light or
light minute maid. I couldn't get enough to drink. Although you are suppose
to "sip" in the beginning, it's good to have something in your
hand, or within close reach. Small sips help, even in the middle of the
night. Best of luck to you...it gets better..I promise.

When people ask me about the worst thing about my surgery, I tell them the
post-op thirst! I did not have pain, problems with food, dizziness, etc.,
but I was SO thirsty. I wanted to be able to guzzle a big glass of water,
but of course you can't do that, so do as the last poster said: keep
something at hand to sip at all times. It does get better. I'm 4 years
post-op and don't have the thirst problem anymore as long as I drink my
water. Good luck and hang in there!
