Question:
Is this what dumping feels like?
I am almost 4 weeks post op and last night was the 3rd time I have experienced what I think is "dumping". After eating something that doesnt agree with me I get very nauseated, very cold and have to lay down - each time I fell right to sleep for about 1/2 hr --- is this dumping? I have been lucky enough not to vomit yet - I guess I have a strong stomach -lol Thanks for your answers - Steph — Stephanie517 (posted on June 13, 2006)

That is dumping for sure...use is wisley and don't repeat what triggered
the dumping. I am glad I dump, it keeps me in check! Best of wishes for
your success...

That's what it's like for me, but additionally I get very clamy and I'm out
for usually an hour or more.

That sounds like dumping to me! I have never vomited when dumping, but do
get clamy and feel heart palpations, too! It is an awful feeling and helps
to not repeat the cause!
Each person is different in the amount of sugar or fat they can
handle. I know that I can handle up to 18-20 grams before feeling bad and
I check labels all the time! Unfortunately, there are some food items that
have high sugar that I didn't realize. Tomato soup is one of them! I only
drink about a half cup at a time if I have it at all. It sure is nice in
the winter, though!

Yup - that's dumping! :) But as I learned in my support group last week
(and I'm 3+ years out...) dumping doesn't only mean nausea/vomiting. It
can also appear in the form of heart palpitations, "the sweats",
fatigue, etc. At 4 weeks out, just follow your doctor's advice TO THE
LETTER, and you should be just fine. Remember, that advice is there for a
REASON! Best of luck to you!

That's exactly how I've dumped for the last year and a half. I thought I
was the only one! The worst is when you're out and about.....it happened
to me yesterday. I took my daughter to lunch and then almost fell asleep
driving....so be careful. As the others mentioned, figure out what caused
it and don't do it again. For me it's often over eating.....sometimes just
one extra bite will do it. Best to you Steph! You've made an awesome
decision and you will be so pleased with the results.

While to me, it's a no-brainer to not eat the things that we know cause
dumping..ie sugar....some people heavy fats..etc. I have this crazy system
that will send me into a dumping episode, and I can't identify one thing
that would have caused it. I can eat and drink the same things that didn't
make me dump one time, and will dump the next. I can't make heads nor
tails of the process with me. It sure is one of those nasty situations
that you certainly don't want to experience more than once. I'm 6 years
post, and I DO know I will dump on sugar. But, there has been a time or
two that I did have a bit and didn't...another time, I did and did. I
figure those times I deserved. But when I eat a normal, small sized
healthy meal, and have an episode, now that plain old isn't fair! LOL!
