Question:
Health Insurance to Cover Surgery Wisconsin
Hi, I live in Wisconsin and need answers about health insurance that will or could cover this surgery for me. I look on many of the plans exclusions and limitations and they all say they won't cover weight loss surgery. However on the flip side they said they would cover surgery that is deemed medically necessary so how would that work for weight loss surgery? In short what where the steps people took to get this surgery. Also, I am in college and is seriously considering dropping out to pay for it. — JadedJassy (posted on June 14, 2009)

I just had surgery May 26th and have Cigna Health Partners for my
insurance. You will need to jump through a few hoops but that comes with
just about every insurance company.

Hi, I live in Wisconsin also, and I had absolutely no problems with my
insurance (Noredian Benefit Plan Administrators). Of course they had a few
restrictions like I had to meet the weight requirements and had to see a
dietician a few times before the surgery. But with the first notices they
agreed to pay for the lap band without any problems. Like the previous
answer says you have to jump through a few hoops and follow the insurance
companies protocol and you should be alright. Clarice

I live in Milwaukee, WI and I had surgery last August. I would recommend
going to an information seminar. At the seminar they gave me a folder with
the questions to ask your insurance company. That helped a lot. My
insurance had an exclusion and I had to change insurance through work, we
have two options. With the change they covered it on the first try. Of
course I had to jump through hoops but they told me what they were when I
called.
