Question:
Has anyone lost over 100 lbs and not had to have plastic surgery for apron?
I'm going to have RNY and was wondering what my chances are that I will have to have a flap of skin removed from my abdomen. I weigh about 245 now and hope to lose 100 lbs. Anybody out there that didn't? — chestina (posted on May 23, 2009)

in 15 months I have lost 168lbs and no apron - I believe my secret has
been to use Clarins Extra Firming cream day and night all that time on
arms, legs and tum. My Dr can't believe how good my skin is. Very little
sagging- and with exercise it is toning up.

It really depends on your age and the elasticity of your skin. I'm on the
older side of many WLS folks. I'm 51 years old. My highest weight was 365.
I lost 65 pounds in the 18 months prior to surgery and another 90 pounds in
the last 9 months, since RNY. Surprisingly, my body is looking a lot like
the shape it was in the "olden days".Don't think I'll require
skin to be removed from my abdomen. I still have another 50 to go.....won't
be wearing any spaghetti strap or sleeveless tops, or any "daisy
dukes" for the rest of my life. Abdomen is good! Now thighs and bat
wings are another story. DRINK LOTS OF WATER. Best of luck to you.

It really is a combination of factors that contribute to this. First of
all is age - the older we get, the less elasticity of our skin. Next -
everyone puts on fat in different ways - some more in the abdomen, some
more in hips/tummy areas, etc. Another factor is the amount of weight you
have to lose. And yet another is the amount of exercise and type of
exercise you do. I am 54 years old, 5'2" and was 369 at my highest.
Most of my weight was in the tummy and hips area, and already had an
"apron" before I started losing weight. Thus, as I have lost
weight, the apron has gotten worse. So, no matter how much exercise I do,
what kind of cream I use, etc., I will need surgery to get rid of that
apron. It is so bad for me that it is in my way when I am walking. So,
all of the above factors play into whether or not you will require plastic
surgery to get rid of the apron. Best of luck to you!

Actually, most don't. It really does depend on your body and skin. You
don't mention your age but, the older you are, the less it tightens up. But
100 lbs is by no means a guarantee of having too much skin. Usually it is
those with much more weight to lose that really NEED it. You won't have a
perfectly flat stomach, but as long as you are comfortable you shouldn't
need it. You can cover a lot in clothes. I have been asked numerous times
if I have had plastics. I am 51 now, had VSG 14 months ago, and have lost
127 lbs. The only reason I might have plastics would be strictly cosmetic,
and that is unlikely.

I have lost 120 so far and according to my trainer most of it can be fixed
by doing the correct excercises. A little "pooch" will remain
that I may want to get a tummy tuck later but it will not be
"necessary"

I'm eight years post op and looked pretty great right after surgery. Then
I got pregnant... the skin has become a problem since then, all the
excercise in the world won't help.

I had lap-band over 4 years ago. I have lost over 180 lbs. I am now down
to 170, I just had a hysterectomy and tummy tuck on Friday. I am
absolutely miserable. Although, I am overdoing it, I just need to realize
I had 2 major surgeries. It is very nice to have a flat stomach and not
have to worry about it.

I am 5 months out, age 30, and at 80 lbs and will not need my apron
removed...in fact, I could almost say, what apron? And my friend, age 30,
had it and is a year and half out and did not need the surgery...everybody
is a bit different, but I think it really just depends on the individual...

I lost 140lbs and I will not have any plastics done. As the others
mentioned also, I am 38 years old. That has alot to do with it too. My
arms are a little flabby but not to the point to where I really need
anything done. I did have a Breast lift and augmentation done 1 month ago.
But as you asked, no nothing on the belly. Good luck and best wishes to
you.
