Question:
Anyone had a revision and not lost any weight?
RNY 1/02; lost 70lbs after 2 years of trying before gaining. Lost insurance so could not follow-up. Finally able to see another surgeon who found problems from first surgery (said they weren't my fault). Revision 8/06; have not lost anything since. Current surgeon not supportive because practice expanded very quickly. Should I find third? — Cheri0370 (posted on April 28, 2008)

I would send a simple fax that you have tried to reach his office but no
one has returned your calls or set up an appointment. You have not lost
and you need to see him now! If that does not bring a responce to the
number or email you give him, then, send it with a simple letter to the
hospital asking if they can refer you to a Bariatric specialest that is
more responsive. Tell them you need help. Send a copy to the doctor as
well, then if that does not work, tell them both with a copy of the
preivious email that you are posting on OH and other web sites their names
as non responsive, and contacting the newspaper in their area, as well as
the state office of physisions, sergions and hospitals. I am glad to look
up the proper state agency to report them to if you tell me your state.

To what were you revised?
I think that you do need some follow up assistance. If your current surgeon
is not willing to help I would look for another. You can spend time trying
to make him pay attention to you or you can move forward. I vote move
forward. Get you records from both the original and the revision surgery
and look for a highly qualified doctor to give you a third opinion. I can
only imagine how disappointed you must be right now and I wish you great
success as you move forward.

If you are not getting proper care, either show up at your surgeon's office
and insist on care or find another. I also am curious to know if you have
been following a WLS appropriate diet and exercise regimen and still not
losing any weight? No matter how many surgeries/revisions you have, if you
are not compliant with the lifestyle changes, you will not ever be
successful.
Good luck,

Could you clarify things a bit?
You said you stopped seeing the 1st surgeon due to a loss of insurance...
what caused you to see a 2nd surgeon rather than returning to the first
one? What were the problems with your first surgery? What procedure(s)
were done as the revision in 8/06?
What do you mean by not supportive? Are you unable to see or contact your
current surgeon?
What is it that you are looking for? Are you wanting testing done to make
sure that your current surgery is intact? Are you wanting another
surgery/procedure? More direction/guidance as far as food intake and
exercise? Something else entirely?
If you can't get in touch with or get an appointment with your current
surgeon, then yes, it might be time to find someone else. However, from
your question, it does not sound like that is the problem...
I am wondering what it is you are looking for from your surgeon (or a new
one) in terms of support. You haven't really shared much so I don't want
to make any assumptions, but its possible that whatever support you are
looking for might be better found from a different type professional
(nutritionist, personal trainer, etc.) and if that's the case, then finding
a 3rd surgeon isn't going to do much for you.
Please post more information so that we can help you.
Best wishes.
