Question:
receipe for "double strength" milk

I have looked but have not seen this listed anywhere. The hospital where I hope to be having surgery done gave me a book with this in it. For one quart of double strength milk, make it ahead the night before--it is 4 cups of skim milk, and add 1 1/3 cup of powered dry milk. Stir and refrigerate. Stir again in the morning also. This brings the protein level up to 16 grams per cup.    — sry48 (posted on June 20, 2007)

Yes it makes perfect sense....each 8 oz. glass of skim milk has 8 grams of protein so you are essentially doubling the protein by adding the powdered milk.

so the powdered does not have sugar, carbs or fat?

You also increase the lactose and if you are lactose intolerant, well, you are going to be very, very uncomfortable.

Donna: This was recommended to me by the dietician. 1 cup of skim milk has 90 calories, 0 fat, 12 grams carbohydrate, 12 grams of sugar, and 8 grams of protein/off the gallon milk label. Off the dry milk box, 1/3 cup has 80 calories, 0 fat, 12 grams of carbohydate, 12 grams of sugar, and 8 grams of protein. So it is similar to skim milk in nurtrients. It looks like - that besides doubling the protein, it also doubles everything. She told me to mix it with my oatmeal, cream of wheat or rice, and carb conscious carnation instant breakfast. Sally p.s and if I were lactose intolerant I wouldn't be using it. My husband was at one time, he treated his milk with lactaid before drinking it.

I am not lactose intolerent, but I did this on my own and was ill. I dumped. That just my experience.

Robin: Thanks. I am not lactose intolerent yet...who knows about after, if I get to have the surgery. I am one week from seeing my doctor for the last time before submission to the insurance company. I had to do six months "try to lose weight", nutrition consults, physical therapy consult-to start an exercise plan, a 500 question psych exam/and a 1 hour visit with a psych who didn't like something I said, so I had to see a counselor, and monthly visits to my reg doctor. But I have done all the required things so I am hopeful. According to my "after" diet plan, days 1-4 are strictly clear liquids, days 5-27 full liquid when I would start using the milk. Maybe the double sugar part your body didn't like. My sil had the surgery 3 years ago, and has only dumped once...when she ate a whole cotton candy. She said she didn't get full, it "just melted" in her mouth, but she said if you dump once, you are not going to want to do it again.
