Question:
Any one experiencing abd pain/spasms overnight?
I am 10 months post op open RNY and GB removal. I have woke out of a sound sleep, with intense abd pain. it is not like muscle pain from working out, or gas cramps. It almost seems like a spasm of sorts. It goes through to my back. It lasts around 10-15 minutes and is only relieved by walking around the house. It occurs 2-3 times a mont, for the past several months. The first time or so, it made me a little crazy, now I know it will pass, but is very intense until it does. It leaves me feeling sore afterwards too. Any one know what this is? RThanks for any help!!!! DeeAnn R. — DeeAnn (posted on February 1, 2005)

Can you believe........I just got out of the hospital after spending 4 days
being poked, prodded, tested, starved, etc. because I was having the same
symptoms you describe and I don't have a gall bladder so I knew it wasn't
that. At first, they diagnosed me with pancreatitus supposedly caused by a
stray stone in the bile duct. After numerous tests and hours of
discomfort, the pain went away. My MAJOR mistake was not insisting that
they call my surgeon. It seems now that I probably had a partially
obstructed bowel which can cause extreme pain and nausea. I'd advise you
to call your bariatric surgeon, describe your symptoms and get his/her
opinion before you go to someone who does not understand the bypassed
anatomy. Feel free to e-mail me if you'd like and I'll be glad to give you
the details and maybe spare you some expensive and uncomfortable tests.

DeAnn,
I have had nighttime pain in my chest, scares me half to death. I have
talked to my surgeon and family doc, have had an upper GI and also complete
blood work. seems like everything is in place. I did stop drinking
caffeine and have noticed a difference in frequency and also in duration of
these "episodes." I know that when they come on, they will pass
and I usually have to walk around a bit. I also find that aspertame is not
so great for me so I avoid that. Anymore, it's trial and error.
Best of luck to you--you're looking fabulous! sally

Strange part is I wake up in the morning and the pain is always gone, comes
on as the day goes on ???? I am still paying on the 6 thousand I still owe
