Question:
Has anyone had the vertical sleeve done at the weight of 205lbs?
I was going to have the lap band, but leaning toward vertical sleeve, my doc said I qualify. Also some patients complained the lap band is to slow and high maintence. also was told the vs would be better at eliminating my diabetes. If some one had this procedure at this weight, would you share your experince. I would appreciate it. — Danasha O'Brien (posted on November 11, 2011)

If you are 4" and need to lose a lot of weight it great. How much do
you need to lose?
I kind of wished I had the veritcal sleeve, but at the time I had my RNY,
insurance didn't cover it. You have less problems with the sleeve.

I am scheduled for the sleeve on Monday. HW 250 CW 228 GW ?165. I chose
the sleeve because there was no band that had to be adjusted left in my
body, I could still absorb vitamins and nutrients with my intestines, and I
could eat normal food in much smaller portions afterward. It also seem to
me to be the least invasive procedure since it is laproscopic. I am still
very nervous but am ready to start living a new life. Good luck on your
journey.

I had the vertical sleeve in 09 at 215 lbs. I agree with all the comments
you have had so far, plus I was struck by the fact that, if you need more
help later on, there is a second procedure that can be done - the duodenal
switch - that adds a malabsorptive dimension to the sleeve surgery. I am
considering having that done now, since i seem to be stuck with my final
20% of required weight loss to go. a terrific side effect is that my typ 2
diabetes has just completely resolved.

I had my sleeve surgery April 20, 2010 and on surgery day I weighed 239lbs.
Today I am hovering at 155lbs! :) It was slow but steady losing but I
feel great and I have had no major problems! :) I did not have any
problems before my surgery either. no diabetes or other co-morbidities. I
wanted to keep it that way! I was a size 22/24 and 264lbs at my heaviest.
I am in a 10/12 now. After surgery I had the usual pain but it was
manageable. I was back to work in 3 weeks. would have been back sooner
but I did not have a sit down job. I had muscle pain for about 7 weeks and
that was not too bad. I ate about 1/4 cup of food after surgery, I can eat
about 3/4 cup now.

Please do not have a lapband. Read about all the people who have had one
and they failed and now they have to pay to have it removed and then they
usually have a sleeve. I highly recommend a sleeve. I had one 3 years ago
by Dr. Aceves. I started out at 225 and now weigh 120. I lost a total of
105 pounds and have kept it off. If you have any questions I am more than
happy to talk with you and answer any of your questions.
Good luck,
Suzanne

I just got the sleeve on 7/9/14. I am 4' 10" tall and weighed an even
200 when I had the procedure. I am also diabetic and have Barrett's
esophagus. I chose the sleeve because it seemed to have lower risks than
bypass. My surgeon told me I was not a candidate for the band.
