Question:
can I crush the vitamins together and use them to stop hair loss after surgery?

I havent had the surgery yet, the Dr told me no later than september...I am worried about loosing my hair...I have long thick hair and I hear people talking about taking Biotin, Zink selenium, flax seed oil as well as their regular vitamins...I was thinking I should start buying these to have around the house now and start taking them now but instead of taking them whole I was thinking of crushing them in order to take them twice a day without the yukiness...does anyone have any advice...pleaseeeeee!!!!!    — Jovanna P. I was very sick last year in hospitalvery close to death. Lost all my hair because of the sickness(nothing to do with Bariatric) I started taking 10,000 biotin daily now I have a full head of long hair. Start the biotin now I started the the biotin after I had the bariatric surgery about 4 months out because of hair loss it stopped. Start now so you don't lose hair. It really works

You MUST take in all your required protein, I too take Biotin. I had my surgery a year ago this week and I had minimal hair loss.

becareful adding extra Zinc and flax... Biotin is ok as long as it's chewable. I take chewable Biotin everday, I started before surgery and I am 8 months out without hairloss... A huge key to no hair loss is making sure you take all your multi vitamins, calcuim and protein... all play a part in every aspect of your healing and staying healthy! Good Luck!

it's not lack of vitamins that causes hair loss. it's lack of protein. get more protein.

Protein is the key. I took Biotin and had minimal hair loss - noticable but not drastic. A friend of mine had long, thick beautiful hair, took Biotin and her hair still came out in clumps. She also developed anemia from not getting enough protein. The body distributes the protein it gets to the most important areas of your body (heart, pancreas, liver, etc.). Hair is on the bottom of the list because it is not necessary to live. Just make sure you get enough protein and your hair loss may be minimal. Sometimes people lose hair simply because of the shock of surgery. Don't worry though - your hair will grow back. My friend who lost a lot of hair has the most beautiful thick head of hair back!

I had thin, fine hair to begin with, so the hair-loss that I experienced was more noticable to me. I used the biotin, ate between 100 and 120 grams of protein per day, and tried the Nioxin hair care system recommended by my salon. Nioxin didn't work at all. But....I am now using Ovation Hair Therapy, and although it's way expensive, I've cut my hair really short so I don't use as much, and my hair seems to have nearly doubled in thickness in just the last 6 weeks. Oh, by the way, I'm 18 months out. And I agree...protein is the key to not losing your hair, or only losing a minimal amount. Also, remember that any surgery is an assault on the body, and can cause traumatic hair loss. My daughter lost hair with all three of her pregnancies, all of which had to be delivered by C-Section.

my surgeon had me do 500 mg of the amino acid L-cystein twice a day and it worked! this was in addition to sticking to the protein and vitamin and mineral regimine, I had the duodenal switch so I malabsorb a lot of nutrients
